NEWTOWN SQUARE, PENNSYLVANIA PROPERTY

This quintessential Main Line home balances traditional architecture with lush, layered plantings. The family reached out to Roots for a complete reimagining of the landscape—one that would feel classic, abundant, and alive with color from spring through winter. What began with the front garden evolved into a full-property planting plan carried out over several thoughtful phases.

Planted for Color, Made for Family

The clients are away during the colder months and return each May, eager to enjoy the landscape in full bloom. Roots created a design that offers vibrant interest from the moment they arrive:

  • Seasonal Color and Texture – Every inch of planting was selected for variation and vibrancy. Large monocultures keep the palette clear and generous, while layered combinations of perennials, shrubs, and small trees ensure there's never a dull corner.

  • All-Year Appeal – Evergreen structure, flowering perennials, and plantings with rich fall tones and winter form provide something to enjoy no matter the month.

  • A Family-Centered Focus – Around the pool and outdoor living areas, Roots used bold, joyful colors that feel welcoming and celebratory—a space for gathering, relaxing, and soaking in the season.

Classic Structure with a Soft Touch

The plantings were designed to bring rhythm and softness to the property, working in harmony with the home’s architecture. Each bed was shaped to feel intentional and well-proportioned, with color and texture layered throughout in a way that feels both generous and restrained.

The overall effect is quiet and enduring. A classic setting with thoughtful planting choices that will continue to mature and settle into the space year after year.
