BRYN MAWR, PENNSYLVANIA PROPERTY

This long-standing client relationship began years ago with a simple maintenance program and evolved into one of the most comprehensive projects in the Roots portfolio. Over time, every inch of this Bryn Mawr property has been reimagined, rebuilt, and brought to life, from flood-prone woodland to a layered, livable landscape.

A Full-Property Transformation

Each phase of the work built on the last, creating a cohesive, lived-in space that feels timeless and deeply personal:

  • Foundation and Front Plantings – A mix of shade-loving and sun-loving varieties were used to create movement and contrast. Cool tones—pinks, blues, and purples—were selected to suit the client’s preference for a soft, calm palette.

  • Curved Driveway Beds – Carefully shaped and layered without symmetry, the plantings offer organic flow and visual interest from every angle.

  • Natural Stonework and Decking – The back of the property, once a flood zone filled with ferns and skunk cabbage, now features walkways, steps, and decks built from natural materials, with every joint planted with flowering groundcover for a seamless finish.

Crafted Over Time, Designed to Last

Later phases included stormwater retention, full regrading, boulder placement, sod installation, and a custom white oak shed built from scratch. Climbing hydrangea now softens the structure, and a fire pit built from native ledge stone anchors the lower garden. Each new element—whether a saw-cut patio or a limestone siding refresh—was carefully considered to feel natural and enduring.

Roots continues to maintain the entire property through its Fine Gardening Program, editing and evolving the landscape through every season. What began as routine maintenance has grown into a project that reflects years of trust, craftsmanship, and care.
