Tucked just off Main Street in the heart of New Hope, Ferry Market serves as a vibrant culinary hub for locals and tourists alike. When the market approached Roots to reimagine its outdoor courtyard and beer garden, the goal was clear: create a space that balanced the town’s rich historic character with the fresh energy of its ever-evolving food scene.

Our design team transformed the once underutilized patio into a dynamic, open-air destination. We blended reclaimed brick, corten steel, and cedar slats with lush greenery, climbing hydrangea, and vibrant seasonal planters to soften the hardscape and create a true outdoor room.

A new natural cleft bluestone patio, raised garden beds, and ipe wood seating added warmth and structure, while overhead string lights extended the garden’s use into the evening. A vertical trellis system supports climbing hydrangea, designed to grow into a living canopy, offering dappled shade without attracting heavy pollinator activity. Below the market’s antique iron grate signage, purple wisteria was planted for sculptural beauty and seasonal bloom.

Today, the beer garden serves as an inviting gathering place, whether for a quiet drink, casual lunch, or community event, offering a rare combination of modern function and timeless design in the heart of Bucks County.
